BACK WITH A BANG MADS

Back to where he started

Q Like Shah Rukh Khan, you keep revisiting TV. Is it your telly connection that keeps tugging you back?
It happens both ways. I started off with TV in the 90s and switched over to films after doing a few weekly shows over a couple of years. So it’s nice to be back on TV whenever I can. It’s like my home territory where I get to connect with family audience.

Q So what brings you back to television after four years?
I found Big Money interesting. It involves the entire family. As host and quiz master, I will be playing with four members of a family and it will be interesting to see them try to win Rs 1 crore.

Q What aspect of the show caught your fancy?
It’s very interesting. There are no questions on general knowledge, mathematical ability, analytical skills or knowledge of world affairs. You need to be well tuned to television entertainment, commercials and films aired on TV. It’s pretty simple but it’s not going to be a cakewalk either, because in each round four members of a family will have to answer one question each to move to progress.
Q Your last show Deal Ya No Deal as host wasn’t successful. Were you disappointed?
Oh yes. There were problems about dates. They kept changing the dates and sets due to which I had to quit. But this time it’s been organised well. Big Money will not take much time because it is planned for a short season.

Q How has television changed since the days you were part of it?
It is very different. TV has become very powerful and there is a lot to choose from. Kids’ channels, sports, news, entertainment, movie, lifestyle and infotainment… There is something for everyone. It has become all-encompassing.

Q Is working in TV easier than films?
No, it’s not. I have been rehearsing for Big Money for days now and it’s been a lot of hard work. There is no playacting here. You have to charm the audience, keep your enthusiasm and interest levels high to connect with the audience. But despite the hard work, TV is momentary while films have a much bigger impact.

Q Will you be doing another show after Big Money?
