BAD HAIR DO & DON'T

rom waking up on the wrong side of the bed to overt dependence on hair products, there could be many reasons for your tress stress. Sometimes even the most impeccable celebs are gripped by tremors of panic at the thought of a bad hair day. Why, Demi Moore said she wasn’t going for the Golden Globes because she had a bad hair day. But the truth is that a bad hair day could strike any time. However, experts say there is no need to ruffle your feathers over mere hair. According to them, all one needs to do is just use some basic styling tips, stock up on accessories and arm themselves with confidence.

Hairstylists say that the number one culprit for a bad hair day is the weather. “Absolutely,” agrees Sharon D’Costa, a senior stylist and colour expert, “The sudden dip and rise in the level of humidity has a visible impact on the hair. Also, things like sudden rains cause the hair to become limp or heat makes it frizzy robbing it of all its moisture.” That’s why the most sensible thing to do in these cases is to cast aside all the styling products. “Just stick to the bare minimum because most of these products tend to weigh your hair down and leave a residue.”

To prevent the bad hair day, some stylists say you could cover it up with innovative styling. “One of the simplest things to do when you are confronted with a bad hair day is to look at options where you can style your hair so that the problem is camouflaged,” says Prashant Patwari, a hairstylist. Going in for a different parting, a pouf, even a sleek ponytail or a bun is a quick solution. “Even styles like loose braids, side ponytails are hot this season and the best part is that they are easy to put together. Of course, if nothing else works then pull back your hair into a bun or a twist and allow some tendrils to frame your face — the messy effect adds to the appeal.” A woman’s best friend during manic tress days can be accessories. “This is especially true for women who have short hair. All you need are some cute, jewelled clips or a hairband, like Paris Hilton and you’re set,” he adds.

When it comes to products, take the minimal route. “Spritz some water on the sides to control flyaway hair. If you have frizzy hair, invest in an anti-frizz serum that helps to control the frizz. This also helps to hold the style and coats it with a protective layer that doesn’t let it worsen through the day. However, if it is particularly bad, then go in for a quick hairwash with a mild shampoo and follow up with a leave-in conditioner. Style your hair in natural waves and voila, you’re set,” says Sharon.

Quick fixes
* Go in for a regular haircut, split and dry ends tend to be more frizzy, thereby making bad hair days more frequent.
* Opt for simple styles like a loose braid, bun or a ponytail.
* Use accessories to jazz up your look. This helps to take attention away from the hair itself.
* Keep use of products to the minimum.
* Always have a anti-frizz serum around, this helps in cases of emergencies
